A Total War game bursting with personality

Since the first Total War game set in feudal Japan, Creative Assembly's great strategy game franchise has continued in its amazing success. This success is not exactly difficult to understand as the games in the Total War franchise are usually very high in quality and enjoyable. Total War: Three Kingdoms is another addition to this series, and this time, the eponymous total war is set in ancient China. Featured in its cast are various heroes that can make or break your campaign. Formulate brilliant winning tactics on the battlefield, but don’t forget about your diplomatic status with your opponents in this complex strategy game.

Age Old Features

With Total War: Three Kingdoms, Creative Assembly seems to have made few changes to their existing combat mechanics. What changes they did make are significant on their own to make Total War: Three Kingdoms stand out from its Total War predecessors, but thankfully, they did not take away anything that was positive in the older games.

The first thing to notice is the amazing graphics. All of the Total War games had amazing graphics for their time, and Three Kingdoms is no different. The world map, in particular, is beautiful. It has such vivid detail that really captures the stunning scenery of ancient China.

Unique Heroes

One of the most interesting mechanic additions to Total War: Three Kingdoms are the unique generals. Unlike other Total War games, you can choose heroes from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms to lead your army. Each of them has stats and abilities unique only to them, and these heroes can recruit different types of units based on their preferences.

Additionally, Three Kingdoms a brand-new mechanic that involves these unique heroes: Duels. Dueling involves two heroes or generals from opposing camps fighting in one-on-one combat. Duels affect the morale of the army depending on its outcome. It’s a literal game-changer that could cost your field battle with one wrong swing of the sword.

Diplomacy and Relationships

Diplomacy has also experienced a massive revamp. Your choices directly affect your relationships with other players. You can establish strong alliances based on trades and deals. On the other hand, you can choose to play more treacherously and betray everybody. Even personal relationships between lords and generals can impact your campaign. Make sure you strategize and think about who you’re making friends within the game as they can lead you to utter ruin or betray you.

Beautiful and Unique

Total War: Three Kingdoms takes aspects of older Total War games and improves upon them. However, it still has its own unique flair that gives it its own personality. Loyal fans who came from earlier games will not have any trouble adjusting to this one, but it’s definitely not a retread of the older games. Three Kingdoms is bursting with beauty and personality with its amazingly designed heroes and gorgeous scenery landscapes. With your great generals, conquer all of China and make the greatest empire the world has ever seen. Lead them to glorious victories as they engage in the timeless Art of War.
